The Howard mathematics department is very excited to host the Spring Eastern Sectional Meeting of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) on April 6-7, 2024. The AMS is the leading professional society for mathematicians in the United States. AMS meetings offer mathematicians from around the country the opportunity to gather together at a host university for a weekend to share their latest research and foster new collaborations. In April, we expect that hundreds of mathematicians will visit the Howard University campus.

Highlights of the Howard AMS meeting in April include over 40 Special Sessions, three Invited Addresses, and the Einstein Public Lecture in Mathematics. Special Sessions are collections of talks dedicated to a certain mathematical topic. Together, the Special Sessions will cover all areas in pure and applied mathematics. The Invited Addresses will be delivered by Ryan Hynd (University of Pennsylvania), Jinyoung Park (New York University), and Jian Song (Rutgers University).

The Einstein Public Lecture will be delivered by Talitha Washington (Clark Atlanta University). Dr. Washington was formerly a faculty member in the Howard math department. She was also the 2018 Black History Month Honoree from the website Mathematically Gifted & Black. We are especially excited to welcome back Dr. Washington to our campus.
