- Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI), located in Berkeley, California, is a research institutes for mathematics. The Howard University Mathematics Department is partnering with MSRI.
- Mathematical Biosciences Institute (MBI), located at Ohio State University, is a major center for interdisciplinary work involving mathematics and biology. Howard University is a member institution of MBI.

- Center for Discrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS), located at Rutgers University, New Jersey, is a collaborative effort of Rutgers and Princeton Universities, AT&T Labs - Research, Bell Labs, Telcordia Technologies and NEC Laboratories America and their scientific personnel, as well as their colleagues nationwide, working together to play a national leadership role in the development, application and dissemination of discrete mathematics and theoretical computer science.
- Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, makes it its mission to increase the impact of mathematics by fostering interdisciplinary research, and linking mathematics with important scientific and technological problems from other disciplines and industry.
- American Institute of Mathematics (AIM), one of the seven NSF-funded mathematics research institutes in the US, located in Palo Alto, California, has been hosting fully-funded, weeklong workshops in all areas of the mathematical sciences since 2002.
