Howard Math Department to Offer Data Science Program Leading to Bachelor of Science in Data Science

Starting in 2026, Howard Math Department is to set to begin offering a data science program, leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Data Science.

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Data Science at Howard University draws on proven expertise in the Department of Mathematics to provide a rigorous, innovative and integrated undergraduate academic curriculum that incorporates Mathematics and Statistics, Applied Computation and Programming, Ethics and Communication to prepare Howard students for impactful careers in a rapidly growing data-driven society. This interdisciplinary program is designed to address workforce demands for data science and data analytics skills and abilities, enhance research capabilities, and support Howard University mission of producing socially responsible and competent leaders with a focus on social justice and ethical leadership.

The curriculum spans foundational Mathematics and Statistics, applied computation, data management, curation and visualization, communication and ethics. Students will engage in experiential learning through internships, capstone projects and interdisciplinary collaborations.
