James Donaldson Receives Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement

James Donaldson

Professor Emeritus James A. Donaldson, a former Chair of the Department of Mathematics and former Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Howard, received the 2019 Mathematics Alumni Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement from the University of Illinois, his alma mater.

Professor Donaldson received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois in 1965 and went on to become the chair of this department in 1972-1990 and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in 1999-2012, among many other distinguished positions in his career. His tenure saw the establishment of the Ph.D. program in mathematics at Howard, the first such program at an HBCU institution.
